After owning and being involved in a stack of businesses in numerous industries over the last 14 years there is certainly some essential pieces that I know for sure that need to be put in place when it comes to building a thriving business.

The most important and crucial of these pieces is having a solid and strong foundation for the growing business.  Just like with building houses, if your foundations are weak and not laid properly, it compromises the entire structure.

Similarly in business, if you haven’t laid the foundations of your business correctly, then the whole business can struggle and be unstable for a long time until the foundations are sorted out.

The great news about business is that you can work on the foundations at any time without having to rip the entire structure down to fix it.  So if you didn’t lay the proper foundations at the start of your business, then it is ok, because you can work on them now to make them stronger, make them better, and to support the business with its growth moving forward.

So what are the foundations of your business exactly?

Obviously it is the base layer that is going to support your entire business, but what does this base layer actually consist of?

This base layer is probably not what you think it would be, because most people don’t put much effort into this area of their business at all, hence why so many businesses struggle.

The foundations of your business is created from your ‘Inner Game,’  your internal world that is creating your external world.  A lot of people talk about Mindset, and Inner Game does include your Mindset, but it also encompasses so much more:  Your beliefs, thoughts, habits, your attitude, your energetic state, your personality, your ambitions and intentions all make up this foundation layer of your Inner Game.

Now, you might be thinking, what does all that have to do with the success of my business?  Quite a lot actually.

Your Inner Game is the biggest contributor towards whether you succeed in business or fail.  Trust me, I’ve seen so many businesses go down in flames, some of them have been my own businesses.  That’s right, I’ve had some great success in business, but I’ve also had some massive failures as well.  So I know what it takes.  I know why businesses succeed, and why they fail, because I have seen the insides of both types, and they are very different businesses on the inside: those that succeed and those that crumble.

I can say from the depths of my heart, that the Inner Game of a business, is by far the most determining factor as to whether a business will thrive or struggle.  It really is the foundation layer for a business, and when this foundation is strong, so is the business.  When this foundation layer is weak and has gaps, so too does the business.

In order to create powerful and effective changes in a business, you look at this foundation layer of the Inner Game first, changes at this level will then have a massive difference on the entire business structure.
