What are you talking yourself out of?
When going for something we really want, it is common for us to get in fear, self doubt and procrastination at some point of the process.
During that fear & doubt phase we can talk ourselves out of the very thing that we want to create. Our inner critic will bring up all the reasons, excuses & limitations of why we can’t do it… All of which are usually very valid.
But those valid reasons, excuses & limitations don’t mean that the goal or result you want to create isn’t possible. It doesn’t mean you aren’t capable of creating it.
Our mind will tell us anything to keep us in our comfort zone and keep us playing small.
This is me on Friday at the Emerald Lakes on the Tongoriro Crossing in NZ. It is the hardest day track in NZ and has a large number of rescues every year. It has been a goal of mine for a long time and on Friday I completed this amazing trek. It took me 9 hours to complete. It was incredibly hard but very rewarding.
Leading up to it, I was freaking out. I was talking myself out of it and I didn’t believe I could do it. I had a big list of valid reasons why I couldn’t do it, and my list of why I could do it was pretty short.
This is why Inner Game work is so crucial. Don’t talk yourself out of your dreams.
